Monday, January 16th, 2012For a man who is supposed to be on the verge of retirement, director Steven Soderbergh sure is making a lot of films. HAYWIRE is coming on January 20th and the male stripper film MAGIC MIKE is following later this year. Next up for the busy director is the psychological thriller THE SIDE EFFECTS (formerly titled “The Bitter Pill”) from screenwriter Scott Z. Burns. To aid him on his adventure, Soderbergh has set Channing Tatum, Blake Lively and Jude Law to star in the film.
The basic story is about a woman (Lively) that turns to prescription drugs to deal with her husband’s impending release from prison. Tatum will play the husband while Law will play the woman’s psychiatrist. Shooting on Effects is set to start in April for a release in 2013.
Channing Tatum plans acting break
Wednesday, February 9th, 2011Channing Tatum has revealed he plans to take a hiatus from acting, to focus on directing and producing. The Step Up star, who next appears in The Eagle with Jamie Bell, has set up a production company called 33andOut Productions, and would like to get more involved behind the camera.
“I’m probably going to take a break from acting after a little while because I’ve enjoyed the developmental process so much – it’s been a lot of fun for me,” he told Collider.
“It helps you as an actor to learn story and to learn how to really nurture a script and work with a writer so you’re not sitting there having to write it yourself and give notes.”
Channing, who is currently in The Dilemma as Winona Ryder’s on-screen lover, is keeping his fingers crossed for a GI Joe sequel.
“From everything I’ve heard, there’s a script. They’re trying to figure out something going on behind the scenes with the director,” he continued.
“They keep everything pretty close to the chest with those big movies but I do know there’s a script. I have not read it yet. I’m about to start lighting a fire under those guys’ feet to give it to me because I’m dying to know. I know it’s substantial. It’s definitely different from what I hear.”

Channing Tatum and Reid Carolin ink 2-year deal with Relativity Media
Thursday, December 9th, 2010Even though Relativity Media already has a strong working relationship with star Channing Tatum (Dear John, Fighting, and Haywire), the production company just closed a deal with the actor/producer that will strengthen that relationship exponentially. Tatum, with producing partner Reid Carolin, has entered into a two-year pact that gives Relativity the opportunity to partner with the duo.
Relativity’s President of Worldwide Production, Tucker Tooley, is thrilled by the deal, stating, “Channing is an immensely talented actor and incredibly enthusiastic about finding material to produce with Reid. We look forward to working with the two of them over the coming years.
Tatum and Carolin’s next project, Ten Year – which also stars development partner and Tatum’s wife, Jenna Dewan – is not included in the recently inked deal. Though, in-development titles The Contortionist’s Handbook, What’s Left of Us, and 11 Minutes – all potentially starring Tatum – are possible partnership opportunities.
Until the first partnership comes to fruition, Tatum can be seen in a wide variety of high-profile films: The Dilemma with Vince Vaughn and Kevin James, The Eagle with Jamie Bell, The Son of No One with Al Pacino and Katie Holmes, and The Vow with Rachel McAdams. Tatum also stars in Relativity’s upcoming star-packed thriller, Haywire, featuring Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas, Michael Angarano, and Gina Carano.
Since Tatum is currently one of the hottest stars in Hollywood, this deal is an especially prudent move on the part of Relativity. As Tatum’s star power will inevitably rise with these projects, so too will Relativity’s.
